Pseudotropheus polit is a small mbuna of Lake Malawi. Just because he’s small doesn’t mean he isn’t tough. They are nasty, even for mbuna. They are right up there with Pseudotropheus demasoni as far as toughness goes. Maybe I should do the Betta thing and put two males in a tank and let them duke it out. Winner takes all. I have my Pseudotropheus polit in a 75 gallon tank with 5 inch albino Eurekas and the dominant male Pseudotropheus polit is king of the tank. Doesn’t matter to him that he’s under 3 inches. Pseudotropheus polit males will go to 4 inches and females to over 3 inches. The males are magnificently colored and the females and fry are kind of a rust color.
The Snow White Cichlid is among the most peaceful of Pseudotropheus species. Although territorial, this fish does well with peaceful mbunas and Peacocks.
They will readily eat most cichlid pellets, flake and frozen foods.
Sexual differences: Males have three to four, distinct egg-spots on the anal fin and have slightly longer pelvic fins.
The male Snow White Cichlid is polygamous, so use several females. As many as 60 eggs are laid and fertilized by the dummy-egg method. The female mouth broods the eggs for 20-25 days.
Breeding potential: 7. A moderately difficult fish to breed.
